Purple Haze Manicure

I was looking through my stash of polishes tonight and as much as I want to dive right into the brights again I feel guilty leaving my winter colors behind so I compromised!

As soon as I picked up Essie "sexy divide", the tip color, I heard Jimi Hendrix playing purple haze in my head. I kinda have a somewhat spiritual connection to him so to say. While living in Maui with a good friend of mine we were informed by many locals that we were living in "Jimi's house" on the hippie compound that it was in the 70's, and kinda still was when we lived there!

So here is my "purple haze" manicure dedicated to Jimi!

2 coats of Essie lilacism
2 coats of Essie sexy divide on tips
1 coat of Seche Vite top coat

Quick and Easy egg bake

I wanted to share a really easy and healthy dinner I made Saturday night. It was one of those nights were I was looking in the fridge wondering "what can I do for dinner that doesn't require much work or thinking!". We have all been sick for weeks now and I am running on empty in the energy department. So I threw this together fast. I do many variations of this depending on what I have on hand and I hardly ever use a crust, like to cut the extra calories! So here it goes:

Quick & Easy Egg Bake

1/2 sweet onion diced and sautéed in tiny sliver of butter till clear
6 eggs beaten
1 1/2 cups of skim milk
1 pkg or @ 8 slices bacon chopped into 1/2 inches pieces (I used precooked)
Whatever cheese you like, I used cheddar cut into long slivers ( you could use shredded @ 1 cup)
Salt & pepper to taste

Pre heat oven to 425
Sauté onion till clear, beat eggs & milk, cut bacon, combine all in a square Pyrex glass dish
Lay cheese on top, (some will float, some will sink)
Bake for 10 mins then decrease oven to 325 and bake for 30 mins more till a knife comes out clean.

I served it up with some fresh sliced pineapple!

Cork board redo

I wanted to give a basic cork board a overhaul with a bold color print to spruce up my laundry/pantry/family organization area a new look. I recently saw a idea for this on pinterest from a blog called beachhouseinthecity.blogspot.com and thought it was soo cool, I just changed it a little by adding some accent ribbon too for a little extra pop of color and painting my frame silver.

I got this fabric from Jo Ann Fabrics in the home decor area for about 7.99 a yard, cork board is from Walmart.

First I spray painted the frame silver, them hot glued yellow ribbon and green ric rac on the edge to make the yellow pop in the print. Then I cut my fabric with just enough to fold in the edge, about half an inch. Next I used furniture tacks to hold my fabric in place. I got the tacks at Jo Anne's and I used two boxes (right with home decor and curtain supplies). And voila here is the end result! All ready for some kid art work, pictures or whatever!

The other dry erase calendar and to do list came from Target : )

NEON Nails!

My new love for neon has now expanded into my nail polish collection. I just can't resist these colors that bring back memories of my hot pink converse high tops and rainbow friendship bracelets!

To do this manicure I used:

Essie Ballet Slippers (not pictured) 2 coats

Essie Pink Parka

Essie Vermillionaire

Essie Funky Limelight

Essie Turquoise & Caicos

Essie Lapis of Luxury

I did 2 coats of the tips, which I just did freehand. I topped it all off with a coat of my favorite quick drying top coat Seche Vite.

Cauliflower Love

As a kid my parents would have to force feed me cauliflower! Not this kind, this is delicious!

I found this recipe in last month's Whole Living.

1 head of cauliflower
EVOO
Sea salt/ pepper to taste

Preheat oven at 430 degrees
Cut cauliflower into large florets
Drizzle with EVOO
Sprinkle salt/ pepper

Roast for 30 minutes till brown on tips.

ENJOY!!

Gluten Free Valentine's Sweet!

Recently as you know I have been cutting gluten from my diet, but I don't have to sacrifice the occasional treat.

Here I made these yummy Rice Chex marshmallow treats! I used the recipe for Rice Krispy treats but used gluten free Chex instead.

To give it a Valentine look I added some pink Wilton food/icing dye to the marshmallow and sprinkled on some pastel non pariels. To finish the look I placed them in cupcake liners for single servings.

Happy Valentine's Day!!
